Light-weight and energy efficient, Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) comes with a rich history of dominance in the European construction market. It has been two decades since Australia got to practice AAC and it is consistently growing.

The process is simple, where a foaming agent is added to the concrete in a mould and the resulting cake is cooked with steam (autoclaving). But the functional efficiency comes a long way comparing the ease of making. It holds an embodied energy content (moderate), and thanks to the aerated structure of the material, it excels as a sound and thermal insulation too. It is an excellent fire barrier, and acoustically sounds. Also, its recyclable nature makes AAC environmental friendly. Given its longevity, insulation, acoustic and structural ability, it is a great material investment for buildings that are inclined to have a long-standing life.
